The Peniche WSL Rip Curl Surfing Championship takes place from March 6 to 16, 2024 at Supertubos beach in Peniche and promises to be one of the most exciting events on the international surfing calendar in 2024.
It is the 3rd stage of the season and will attract the best surfers in the world to Peniche for the tubular and challenging waves of Supertubos beach, known for its consistency and quality, making it an ideal stage for high-level competitions.
Peniche, with its surfing culture and iconic beaches such as Supertubos, known for its powerful and fast tubular waves, offers perfect conditions to highlight the talent and skills of the best surfers in the world.
This event is another key stage in the World Surf League WSL circuit, where every wave counts in the quest for the world title, increasing expectation and excitement among competitors and fans.
After the conclusion of the Pipeline stage in Hawaii, Hawaiian John John Florence in men and Australian Molly Picklum in women are leading the WSL championship.
What happened at WSL Peniche in 2023
In March 2023, Supertubos beach, in Peniche, hosted the best surfers in the world.
In her debut year in the World Surf League (WSL, World Surf League) - and only in her 3rd stage of the circuit, young Caitlin Simmers won the MEO Ripcurl Peniche Pro, at 17 years old.
The crowd on the sand watched a series of intense heats, which culminated in an incredible final between Caitlin Simmers and Courtney Conlogue where Simmers emerged victorious with 13.50 points, compared to her opponent's 12.83.
In the men's final, Australian Jack Robinson put on a show, but his 15.14 was not enough to defeat Brazilian João Chianca (17.57), brother of big wave ace Lucas Chumbo.
"If someone told me four years ago that I would be in the CT and win, I wouldn't believe it. Thank you, Portugal," he added during the awards ceremony.
The WSL in Peniche
